It does detect the hard drive and I am also able to access it's contents. Unfortunately, my M1 MacBook Pro seems to be struggling with it. I know Mac OS cannot natively write on NTFS drives, but from my understanding, it should be able to read them. My workstation is on Windows so they're all NTFS. I am a photographer and have my images stored in external HDDs. This 'fix' isn't nearly reliable enough for me to recommend to professionals or people that work with sensitive data. However, my recommendation to everyone here would be to reformat your drives to work natively with Mac OS or to something like exFAT, if you really need support from both Windows and Mac OS. Fortunately, this is quite rare and I'm generally transferring files to my local server through WiFi, so it doesn't bother me as much anymore. It's not perfect though - I've had a few files corrupt on me when transferring and there is no way to predict what would work and what wouldn't.
Nonetheless, I ponied up for the Paragon NTFS for Mac Software and that has fixed the issue completely. Please help!Įdit: I couldn't find any solution to this and met a bunch of people who had similar problem with their M1 macs.
There's no clear pattern to what is read and what is not, but I cannot find any support for this online. Folders that should have 1000s of files only show to have about 120 files.
TL DR: M1 MacBook not reading some files in NTFS external HDD.
